'20th Century Women' and 'Midsommer'

5 years since my last post? Well, guess I'm ready then

'20th Century Women' (2016, Mike Mills)

First of all this is an absolute joy to watch: great characters, wild yet true stories, set in the early 80s where you either liked Black Flag or you liked Talking Heads and got called an 'Art fag' he cast is extraordinary (Annette Benning, Greta Gerwig, and Elle Fanning (who seems to be getting better at a very fast pace) watch it, no matter your age or gender.

 'Midsommer'(2019, Ari Aster)

Here's a film that blends genre and uncategorized (love that) a young woman,Dani, (played brilliantly by Florence Pouch) has just lost her family to an unspeakable act. Her boyfriend is aloof and shellfish. Anyway, they go on a trip to a mid summer festival in sweeden where copious amounts of psychedelics are consumed. Here's when it gets weird. Not in the way you think, the horrifying, cover your eyes type of weird. In the end though, you will have a huge smile on your face, just like the May Queen. Ok. Of you read all that I appreciate it. Till next time.
